Estraneo; thanks to it's hand in the creation of the possession bullet, was a family ostracized by it's fellow mafia. With the ban and subsequent loss of their secret weapon it was desperate to defend itself... even more desperate to find another means of power.
The Estraneo looked to their own children.
Mukuro Rokudo was simply one of the many experiments. "Specimens", as the children were called. Torture, death, pain: all were commonplace in the sterile labs where the young were taken apart and put back together. The scientists believed they were making weapons. In truth, they were taking lives.
And created a monster.
Mukuro killed them all. Bathed in blood, he escaped, taking two other children under his wing. Mukuro, Chikusa and Ken; the trio left behind them a trail of blood that led to Japan and Vongola's future leader. Sawada Tsunayoshi was Mukuro's goal, the key that would unlock his ideals, his dreams of finally destroying the mafia from within. But he underestimate the boy... and was locked up once again with no means to escape.
Cutting a deal with the Vongola, he agreed to help them in exchange for Ken and Chikusa's safety. Taking possession of a young girl named Chrome, he fought for them in the subsequent battle against Varia as Vongola's "Guardian of the Mist".
Now, thanks to Tsuna's influence, he was freed from his cage and set free in Gaeta in order to be by the Vongola's side. Quiet, calm, but never tame; it is uncertain whether Tsuna has finally won Mukuro's loyalty, or the youth is simply biding his time... waiting for the opportune moment to strike and take Tsuna's body for his own.
